Advanced Electric Machines (AEM), the UK-based leader in sustainable, magnet-free electric motors, has signed a major technology licensing agreement with Sterling Tools Limited, a leading Indian automotive component manufacturer. This partnership marks a significant milestone in AEM’s global expansion, enabling the large-scale production of its rare-earth-free motor technology within one of the world’s fastest-growing electric vehicle (EV) markets.

Under the agreement, Sterling Tools’ subsidiary, Sterling Gtake E-Mobility (SGEM), will manufacture AEM’s patented traction motors at its facility in Faridabad. The deal is strategically timed to capitalize on India’s traction motor market, which is projected to reach £1.5 billion by 2030. By removing the dependency on rare-earth magnets—materials often subject to supply chain volatility and environmental concerns—AEM and Sterling are providing a sustainable, secure alternative for the next generation of Indian EVs.

This commercial success follows a year of technical momentum for AEM. In addition to the India deal, the company secured a seven-figure development contract with a global Tier 1 automotive supplier in October 2025 and launched the HDRM300C, its next-generation motor for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

“Our licensing partnership with Sterling Tools is a major strategic step in growing the reach of our motor solutions,” said Dr. James Widmer, Co-Founder and CEO of Advanced Electric Machines. “To have a highly respected manufacturer supplying our technology into such a rapidly expanding region is reflective of the industry’s appetite to decarbonize in a sustainable, enduring way.”

The Shackleton team has supported AEM since 2022.
