The Shackleton team has been working with its portfolio companies as they face the consequences of COVID-19. While most companies are concentrating on measures to protect staff and deal with lockdown, one of our companies may have a more direct role. The Scottish Event Campus could be in operation as a temporary hospital within two weeks.
The new field hospital will be run by the NHS and could have capacity for more than 1,000 patients.
The Scottish Event Campus (SEC), based on the Clyde, includes the SEC centre, the SEC Armadillo and the SSE Hydro. It was assessed by the British military as a site last week and plans are already turning to action.
Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, confirmed that any beds at the SEC “ .. would be on top of the beds that we already want to add to our existing hospitals.”
While we very much hope that this facility will not need to be used, we are very grateful for the timely contribution the team at the SEC is making to support the health service in Scotland.
